Geoffrey Wynne

Geoffrey Wynne is a British watercolour artist born in Stoke-on-Trent, attending the Burslem School of Art. He is winner of many awards including the James Fletcher-Watdon Memorial Awary at the RI annual show in 2019 and The Art Critic Award at the Mall Galleries, London in April 2019 with his depiction across 3 large paintings of Chatterley Whitfield Colliery in Stoke-on-Trent in watercolour and salt.

 

On the 26th January 2016, along with Joan Walley (former M.P for Stoke-on-Trent North), he presented a watercolour painting of Middleport Pottery by Geoffrey Wynne on behalf of the people of Burslem. The original painting was produced in 2014 during renovation works carried out by The Princes Regeneration Trust, which saved the Victorian Pottery, making it into a world class visitor attraction. H.R.H The Prince of Wales is a trained watercolour artist and a member of the Royal Institute of Watercolourists of which Geoffrey Wynne RI is also an elected member.

 

Geoffrey is one of the top watercolour artists in the world. He has won the very prestigious Sunday Times Watercolour competition and many national awards in Spain. He won the Windsor and Newton 2014 RI prize for his painting 'Thin Red Line' and was accepted to participate in The World Watercolour competition held by the international publication 'The Art of Watercolour'.

His latest work includes medium of watercolour and salt whilst exploring his Potteries roots including a series called Written in Dust which pays homage to the miners. His grandfather was a miner at the North Staffordshire mine, Chatterley Whitfield.

Geoffrey has continued to explore his roots since 2012 on suggestion of his good friend and fellow artist who live in Burslem, Ken Griffiths.
